WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT…

Strollers

It may be the most elite model this side of Paris, but if it doesn't provide the ultimate in safety, the
trendy name means little. Because strollers don't come standard with chrome bumpers and airbags,
informed parents are the best protection when choosing and using one. Consider the following tips
when selecting your baby's buggy.

  • Purchase a stroller with a wheel base wide enough to prevent tipping. When your baby leans
over the side, the stroller should remain erect.

  • Choose a stroller that resists tipping backwards when you press downward lightly on the handle

  • Check stroller frame for hazardous sharp edges or gaps that could injure a child's small fingers
    or toes.

  • A model that allows you to keep an eye on your baby while you're strolling may provide you
with a little extra peace of mind.

  • When shopping for a double or triple stroller, consider the weight and manageability of various
models. Try it before you buy it.

  • Shopping baskets are a great convenience and should be located down low, directly over the
rear axle. Hooking your purse or diaper bag over the handle may cause tipping.

  • Straps should be strong and durable with working buckles. You'll be happier with a stroller that
is easy for you to fasten and unfasten, but difficult for your child.

  • Strollers equipped with brakes or two wheels offer an added measure of safety. Select a
stroller with a convenient braking system and check it before you buy.

  • Folding strollers are an ideal choice for families on the go. Select one that opens and closes
easily. If you are alone with your child, will you be able to manage the baby and the stroller?

  • To keep your stroller in top-notch safety condition give it a frequent check-up. Tighten nuts
and bolts, replace worn straps, examine the brakes, lubricate the wheels.

For Safety's Sake:

  • Never leave a child unattended in a stroller.

  • Always secure the seat belt.

  • Never use a pillow in a stroller for an infant.

  • Keep children away when folding and unfolding a stroller.

  • Be sure plastic end caps on tube ends are fastened securely.

  • Don't allow children to use a stroller as a toy.

  • Always apply the brakes when stopping for a period of time.
