Infant- Infant car seats are for babies from 5- up to 32 pounds. They become a travelling seat for
your child. The car seat will click in and out of a base installed in the car to a stroller or shopping cart
or just to be carried. They are very convenient for transporting the younger baby that likes to sleep a
lot. Mom and Dad do not have to wake baby up to go into the store or home. These car seats are
sold separately from their matching stroller or are sometimes bought with the stroller as a travel
system.
Convertible- Convertible car seats stay latched in your car and do not have removable bases.
Most are rear facing until 30 pounds and then forward facing up to 40 pounds and in some cases 65
pounds. Five point harness systems are the most popular and the safest. The average child will use
one of these seats until they are 4 years old or older.
Booster Car Seats-Booster seats are generally very portable and are held in simply by the act of
seat belting your child in. They serve to make the seat belt fit the child properly by holding the
shoulder belt correctly over the child's shoulder and positioning the lap belt correctly over their laps.
They are recommended for children 40 pounds and over and some models will go up to 100 pounds.
These car seats will take a child through the rest of their car seat needs.
